Sacramento mayor attends virtual meeting with POTUS, Democratic mayors

SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg joined a call with the Democratic Mayors Association to hear from President Biden, who spoke about his re-election campaign and calm concerns about his ability to do the job.

The call lasted about 40 minutes and included other California mayors from San Francisco, San Diego, Oakland, and Los Angeles.

Steinberg told CBS13 that Mr. Biden's energy was "very high" and that he "exhibited strength." The president talked about the debate but focused on his track record, especially as it relates to mayors on the call.

Mr. Biden spoke and took questions from the group, Steinberg said, and spoke about the comparisons between another four years of his administration compared to a repeat of former President Donald Trump.

"We have to fight to win now, he's in, and that means uplifting some of his strengths," said Steinberg.

CBS13 asked Steinberg if he had concerns after Mr. Biden's debate performance.

"Yes, I had concerns," he answered. "I don't think there's anything wrong about people raising the questions."

Mayor Steinberg said that the conversations and questions being asked of Mr. Biden, he believes, will make the Democratic Party stronger. It's a sign, he said, that voters and Democratic leadership care deeply about Democracy.

When asked if the call "eased concerns," Mayor Steinberg said he "felt like I saw a president who was strong and projected that strength." Steinberg added that Democrats should not let down in any way and focus on Mr. Biden's strengths.
