Northbound I-5 in Sacramento back open after deadly crash near Sutterville Road

Deadly I-5 crash in Sacramento causing significant delays

SACRAMENTO – A big rig struck and killed a person on northbound Interstate 5 in Sacramento early Thursday morning, authorities say.

The incident happened just after 5 a.m. near the Sutterville Road offramp.

The California Highway Patrol said the driver of a Dodge Ram saw a woman walking in the fourth lane. In an attempt to avoid hitting her, the driver swerved into the fifth lane, but the truck still hit the woman.

She was then struck two more times, both times by big rigs, the CHP said.

The woman appeared to be in her 50s and the coroner's office is working to confirm her identity.

A SigAlert was issued due to lanes being blocked. All northbound lanes were blocked for a time.

All lanes were reopened just before 8 a.m.

All the drivers remained at the scene and DUI is not suspected, officers said.
