Sacramento Girl Ditches Trick-Or-Treating To Help Homeless
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Up until a couple years ago, 13-year-old Jenna Wright was homeless. While most Sacramento kids were off trick-or-treating this Halloween, she was on the hunt to help.
"They need this more than I need candy," Jenna said.
Dressed up as a "nerd" with pink suspenders and orange socks, Jenna handed out water bottles and bananas.
"I was just thinking and I was like, I like to give back and give to homeless," Jenna said. "So I [asked] myself and instead of trick-or-treating, I'd like to go to the store and buy some supplies."
Jenna gets emotional talking about it.
"I think it's important to do it because at one point in our life we were homeless, so we know what it feels like," Jenna said.
She used her own money – birthday money – and it's not for a school or church project.
"We moved up here [and], basically, we were on the river for a few months," said Robert Bonequi, Jenna's stepdad.
Her parents say she was young, but it was long enough for Jenna to see life differently and realize she wants to make a difference.
"It just makes me feel good," Jenna said.
It won't be the last time we see Jenna at the local park. She plans on treating those in need to socks this Thanksgiving.
