Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputies Mourn Death Of Retired K9 Ike

SACRAMENTO COUNTY (CBS13) — A retired K9 has passed away, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department announced on Tuesday.

Ike, 12, came to the department in September 2005 and worked with the department until his retirement in July 2012. Ike was born in Holland and raised in Indiana.

He is remembered for his keen senses for finding people and firearms, as well as making fast friends with children while he was on patrol. In addition to his work for the sheriff's department, Ike loved attacking sprinklers and chasing pool sweeps.

In January, Ike returned to the department one last time for a surprise visit.

Ike passed away on Monday. His cause of death was not disclosed.
