Roseville College Football Player Facing Murder Charge In Death Of Oregon Man
SALEM, Ore (CBS13) — A Roseville college student is being held as a suspect in the murder of a 66-year-old man in Oregon, Salem Police said on Wednesday.
Beau W. Smith, 22, is being held on a charge of murder. He is a senior wide receiver for Willamette University.
Michael Hampshire, 66, was found dead near D and Winter streets in Salem early Wednesday morning.
Smith was interviewed by authorities and later arrested.
Sources say a man believed to be Smith waved down a patrolman a few blocks from the scene, raised his arms and said "I need help, I was in a fight."
The university released a statement saying they are cooperating fully with the investigation and there is a conduct process running alongside the police investigation.
