1 killed, 1 arrested after road rage incident escalates to stabbing in Turlock

TURLOCK – One person is dead and another person is behind bars after a fight over a road rage incident escalated into a stabbing in Turlock late Friday night, police said. 

Around 10:30 p.m., police responded to an apartment complex on West Monte Vista Avenue near Golden State Boulevard for reports of a stabbing.

This is where officers found 49-year-old Enrique Gomez of Turlock on the ground. Despite life-saving measures, Gomez died at the scene, police said.

Detectives investigated and determined an argument escalated into a fight before escalating into a stabbing at an apartment complex. 

Witnesses and evidence at the scene helped detectives identify the suspect as 28-year-old Ahmad Abweny of Modesto, police said. 

With the help of license plate reader technology, officers were able to track down Abweny within hours and arrested him, police said. He was booked into jail on a murder charge.
