Rita Wilson Is Cancer Free, Going On Tour With Band Next Year

Los Angeles, CA (CBS Sacramento) - In March Rita Wilson was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to take a medical leave from the Broadway show "Fish in the Dark."

At The Hollywood Reporter's Women in Entertainment Breakfast Wilson said, "I am cancer free. I'm one hundred percent healthy!" She went under a double mastectomy as well as reconstructive surgery a month after announcing she had breast cancer, according to PEOPLE magazine.

Family, friends, and fans gave her a lot of support during this time and she tweeted, "I am overwhelmed with gratitude by your prayers and good wishes and the kindness you're sending. Thank you. Thank you."

Wilson will be going on a tour with her band next year and said, "I'll start in New York at the Cafe Carlyle for two weeks on February 23. Then I have a couple weeks off, and then I start again at the end of March. I'll go through all the April and part of May. It's going to be hilarious. Me on a tour bus with my band members."

Wilson's husband, actor Tom Hanks, will be joining her on the road as well. After going through one of the hardest times, Wilson said, "I feel really blessed and very lucky. Part of the reason for going on tour is that I want to show people that you can have cancer, and you can still be out there doing what you love to do, and it's not a death sentence like it used to be."
