Report: San Francisco 49ers In Talks To Host Preseason Game In Australia

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The San Francisco 49ers' season has been going downhill, but next season could see them going Down Under.

Australian news reports are pointing to a possible preseason game hosted by the 49ers at ANZ Stadium in Sydney.

This season, former Australian rugby has tried making the transition to the NFL, but has had struggles. He was inactive Thursday night's 20-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks after an injury.

The 49ers are looking for anything to look forward to as the team is off to a 2-5 start one year after parting ways with head coach Jim Harbaugh and losing a great number of players in the offseason. Adding to the strain is the team losing a home game similar to last year's Thanksgiving game where a front office feud boiled over, and owner Jed York publicly excoriated the team and apologized to fans for their performance.

The news comes as the NFL is eager to stretch its NFL International series beyond just the three games in London this season. The Jacksonville Jaguars beat the Buffalo Bills 34-31 in the first game ever streamed exclusively online with no national TV presence.

The 49ers also played in the first regular season game hosted outside of the United States in a 2005 loss to the Arizona Cardinals
