Report: Kings To Meet With FA Dion Waiters
According to Philadelphia 76ers writer Keith Pompey, the Sacramento Kings plan on meeting with free agent guard Dion Waiters sometime over the weekend.
Waiters is a restricted free agent, so if the Kings make an offer, the Thunder will have a chance to match and retain him. Some speculate Waiters getting close to $18 million a year in a deal this offseason. Could the Kings cough that up?
The guard positions are a weak point for the Kings, as Rajon Rondo is still an unsigned free agent, Seth Curry opted out of his contract and Darren Collison is facing a possible suspension due to domestic violence charges. The Kings are also looking to upgrade over Ben McLemore after a disappointing third season last year.
Last year in 27.6 minutes per game with the Oklahoma City Thunder, he averaged 9.8 points, 2 rebounds and 2.6 assists coming off the bench. However, Waiters is a career 12.8 points, 2.6 boards and 2.5 assists player who has yet to average more than 30 minutes per game. Could he thrive as a starter in Sacramento?
