Rancho Cordova Jumps In Farm-To-Fork Movement Using Instagram

RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13) – When you think of farm to fork, Sacramento probably is the first city to come to mind. But now Rancho Cordova is launching its own farm-to-fork movement.

"We wanted to come up with a way to gather recipes and then give it to citizens," said Ashley Downton, communication specialist for Rancho Cordova.

What's the fastest way in this day and age to share? You guessed it: Instagram.

"It's something they can just take from us and take it back to their home and use it," Downton said.

Using the hashtag #MondayMeal, the city is looking for you to post favorite farm to fork recipes.

"I plan on submitting some recipes for it," said Rancho Cordova resident Sharon Nakamura.

Michelle Smith is the cooking events coordinator at Soil Born Farms. The historic American River ranch sits on 55 acres. Although growing produce for decades, it's still undiscovered by many.

"One of our main goals is bringing people out to the farm showing them this beautiful landscape, and connecting with food health and the environment," Smith said.

And she says this new campaign is a way to increase exposure.

"I think it's really important supporting our local community our local farms sustainable food system," Smith said.

So far, the city says it's working.

"We're already having businesses who are involved in the campaign just because it brings them business and draws people to Rancho Cordova," Downton said.

The campaign is now underway. To post your own recipes just use the hashtag #MondayMeal and tag the City of Rancho Cordova.
