Pedestrian hit and killed Sunday in Modesto

MODESTO - A pedestrian was hit in killed over the weekend in Modesto.

The incident happened at around 9:30 p.m. Sunday along McHenry Avenue at Bowen Avenue, according to the Modesto Police Department. Officers at the scene found the victim and determined a vehicle was headed southbound when the driver, a 17-year-old from Modesto, hit the woman while she was crossing McHenry within the crosswalk.

As a result, McHenry Avenue between Bowen and Tokay avenues was closed due to police operations.

The identity of the victim has not been released, although police say she was a 48-year-old female. Polcie say the driver of the vehicle stayed the scene after the crash. Police say that neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have contributed to the crash.

Located approximately 81 miles southeast of Sacramento, Modesto is the largest city in Stanislaus County and is also the county seat.
