Possible Wolf-Dog Hybrid Gets DNA Test In California

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (AP) -- Orange County Animal Care is awaiting DNA test results for a dog believed to part wolf that bit a 5-year-old girl.

The owners of Leeloo say the agency informed them this week that the investigation into the June 10 biting incident has concluded. The girl was not seriously hurt.

Officials say once DNA results are revealed, Leeloo's fate will be determined by the courts.

Kara Brundage and Jeremy Clover of Huntington Beach tell the Orange County Register that they fear Leeloo could be ordered euthanized.

The newspaper says the case is similar to that of Karma, a husky-mix that was ordered euthanized last year after a DNA test revealed it was part wolf. Karma's death sentence was later revoked and the animal was sent to a sanctuary.
