Poll: Democrats Back Hillary Clinton For President; GOP Undecided
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - California Democrats are solidifying their support for Hillary Rodham Clinton's presumed presidential bid next year, while California Republicans have no clear front-runner, according to a poll released Thursday.
Clinton dominates among registered Democrats surveyed by the Field Poll, with 58 percent saying they would vote for her if the election were held today. Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren was next, with 15 percent, followed by Vice President Joe Biden, with 10 percent.
In the crowded GOP presidential primary field, the poll says Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush are tied with support of 16 percent of registered Republican voters. About 19 percent said they were undecided.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who will address Republicans at the state party's convention in Sacramento later this month, came in ninth in a field of 11 potential candidates, with 4 percent support.
The Field Poll surveyed 1,241 registered voters in California by telephone from Jan. 26 to Feb. 16.
The poll has a sampling error of plus or minus 5 percentage points among Democrats and plus or minus 5.4 percentage points among Republicans.
