Lodi Police Shoot Suspect Who Allegedly Attacked Them With Baseball Bat
LODI (CBS13) - A shoplifting suspect who reportedly attacked police is in the hospital Tuesday night after being shot multiple times by in front of a Lodi home.
The shooting happened just after 9 p.m. when an investigation into a shoplifting incident at a nearby Raley's store led two officers to a residence in the 400 block of N. Sunset Drive. The officers made contact with the suspect who reportedly approached the officers with a baseball bat and began hitting them. The officers shot the suspect multiple times, said Lt. Sierra Brucia, with the Lodi Police Department.
"Our officers were being assaulted by the suspect with a baseball bat. And during the incident, the suspect was shot multiple times," said Brucia.
Victor Amann, who says he's the suspect's father, said his son had a bat but doesn't think the shooting was justified.
"I had him come out of the house. I yelled at him 'Marcus, come out of the house', then I saw him come out of my house and they bum-rushed him in there and shot him five times," said Amman.
One of the officers suffered a broken arm in the attack.
The suspect was taken to a local hospital. His condition is unknown.
