Police: Man Who Attacked Lodi Officers With Baseball Bat Shot

LODI (CBS13) — A shoplifting suspect accused of attacking police officers with a baseball bat was shot multiple times in front of a home.

The shooting happened just after 9 p.m. along North Sunset Drive.

Officers say they made contact with the suspect who reportedly approached them with a baseball bat and began hitting them. The officers then opened fire on the suspect, striking him several times.

Victor Amann, who says he's the suspect's father, admits his son had a baseball bat, but doesn't think the shooting is justified.

"They could have tased him," she said. "I had him coming out of the house. I yelled at him, 'Come out of the house,' and I saw him come out of my house, and they bum rushed him in there and shot him five times."

One of the officers suffered a broken arm in the attack. Both were treated and released.

The suspect remains in critical condition at a local hospital.
