Police: Man Stole Tip Jar From Starbucks, Shot Person Who Tried To Stop Him

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Police say a Good Samaritan was shot while trying to stop a man who allegedly stole money from a tip jar.

The incident happened Tuesday morning at a Starbucks along the 1400 block of Meadowview Road. According to the Sacramento Police Department, 23-year-old Demarcus Knowles walked into the shop with what looked like a gun.

Knowles allegedly grabbed money from the tip jar and then tried to run out, but was interrupted by the Good Samaritan. Police say Knowles then fired the gun at the person and got away for the time being.

Officers quickly showed up at the scene, however, and soon took Knowles into custody.

The weapon was discovered to be a BB gun. Police say the Good Samaritan was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK.

Knowles has been booked at Sacramento County Jail. He's facing charges of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
