Police Investigate Shooting Along I-5 In Stockton

STOCKTON (CBS13) – Police are investigating a shooting that happened early Wednesday morning on Interstate 5.

Just before 2:30 a.m., a man was reportedly shot in the head on northbound I-5 near the Monte Diablo Avenue exit.

The victim was soon after transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Soon after, on Oakhurst Way, a car was found matching the description of the car involved in the shooting.

The suspect car then led Stockton Police on a pursuit through side streets. During the chase, police say, the driver of the car they were chasing pointed a gun outside of his window.

The 8 minute, 7 mile chase ended at North California and Magnolia Streets after officers performed a PIT maneuver on the suspect's car, police say.

That male suspect, 22-year-old Roman Ruiz, is now in custody. A semi-automatic handgun was found inside the car, police say.

According to police, witnesses were brought to the final scene and positively identified the suspect's car.

Ruiz has been arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest, among numerous other weapons charges.
