Highway 50 back open after a morning chase that ended in Folsom

FOLSOM -- Highway 50 is now back open after an early morning chase that ended in Folsom, according to the Folsom Police Department.

The chase started when a female driver was stopped by Placerville police officers for allegedly displaying a fake license plate. The suspect then refused to provide her driver's license and other required documents to the officers, police say.

The suspect then drove off, getting on westbound Highway 50.

Officers chased her, and additional assistance was requested from CHP and El Dorado County Sheriff's Office.

Folsom Police Department eventually displayed spike strips at East Bidwell Street and stopped the vehicle.

The suspect was identified as 34-year-old Akika Parker. She was transported to Marshall Hospital for medical clearance and then booked into the El Dorado County Jail on several charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, evading a peace officer, resisting arrest, and carrying a concealed firearm within a vehicle.

Police say they found a loaded gun in Parker's car.
