Police: 2 hurt in stabbing at Downtown Sacramento apartment

Police investigating stabbing in downtown Sacramento

SACRAMENTO – An investigation is underway after a stabbing left two people hurt in a Downtown Sacramento apartment building.

Sacramento police said officers responded to the scene near 10th and J streets just after 12 p.m. Thursday and found two stabbing victims. One person was in critical but stable condition, police said.

The critically injured person was taken to the hospital while the other victim was treated at the scene with minor injuries.

Police said officers detained a suspect, 27-year-old Liam Calhoun of Sacramento, at the scene. Police said Calhoun will be booked for attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. 

Investigators say there is no outstanding threat to the community, but exactly what led up to the stabbing is unclear. 

Late Wednesday into Thursday was a particularly violent span of time for the Sacramento area. Around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, a clerk at an Auburn Boulevard convenience store was stabbed by a suspect still on the loose.

In North Sacramento later Wednesday night, a shooting left one person dead and another hurt. Minutes later, in North Highlands, a person was stabbed with a screwdriver during a large fight outside an events center. 

Early Thursday morning, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office also investigated an incident along Woodside Lane where a person allegedly his roommate at a condo.
