Modesto Concert After Party Turns Deadly
MODESTO (CBS13) – Police say one person is dead and seven others are injured after a shooting in Modesto.
The incident happened Sunday morning along the 1100 block of Kansas Avenue.
According to the Modesto Police Department, an X-Fest after party was going on at a warehouse in the area. Dozens of people were at the party when someone waiting to get in walked into the parking lot and started shooting.
Witnesses say they heard as many as 30 shots fired.
"After the gunshots I heard a lot of ladies screaming," said one witness who didn't want to be identified.
When officers got to the scene, they found that a 25-year-old man had been shot. Seven other people injured in the shooting soon showed up at the hospital as well.
The 25-year-old man, identified as Modesto resident Zachary McGee, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Two others, another 25-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, are still being treated at the hospital. The other five people hurt have since been treated and released.
"The suspect is outstanding. He's described as a black male adult and unfortunately, that's the only description we have," said Modesto Police spokeswoman Heather Graves.
The after party was an unsanctioned event not officially endorsed by X-Fest.
No arrests have been made at this time. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4536.
