Players From Northern California With Super Bowl Rings
In honor of the Super Bowl celebrating its 50th anniversary in the Bay Area, a look back at all of the local players who have held the Vince Lombardi trophy seems necessary.
Here's a look at the top players from Northern California who have won at least one Super Bowl.
1. Tom Brady - San Mateo - Four Super Bowl Rings
It shouldn't surprise anyone that Tom Brady is at the very top of this list, unless you didn't know that he was from San Mateo. Tom Terrific grew up and went to high school in San Mateo before leaving for college at Michigan.
Over the span of his 16 year career, Brady has won four Super Bowls. He is not only one of the best players from Northern California, but he's one of the greatest players to ever play the game.
He's earned the Super Bowl MVP in 2001, 2003 and 2014.
In his six appearances in the Super Bowl, Brady has a record of 4-2. He has a chance to make his seventh appearance in the Super Bowl this year.
2. Jim Plunkett - San Jose - Two Super Bowl Rings
Jim Plunkett is the absolute definition of a local star. Not only is he from the Bay Area, but he also went to College at Stanford and went on to win one Super Bowl with the Oakland Raiders in 1980.
Plunkett was also awarded the Super Bowl MVP in the same year.
He won a second championship three years later with the Raiders in Los Angeles.
The San Jose native still has not made the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but he is a legend in Raiders history.
3. Tedy Bruschi - San Francisco/Roseville - Three Super Bowl Rings
Tedy Bruschi has ties to both the Sacramento and Bay Area. The linebacker was born in San Francisco, but he grew up and went to high school in Roseville.
In the NFL, Bruschi won three Super Bowl rings all with the New England Patriots. While Brady was the captain on the offensive side of the ball, Bruschi was the defensive leader.
He retired in 2008 and became an NFL analyst for ESPN.
4. Marshawn Lynch - Oakland - One Super Bowl Ring
"Beast mode" is a Bay Area native through and through. His love for the city of Oakland, the Golden State Warriors and Oakland Athletics is well known.
Not only did Lynch attend Oakland Tech, but he also went to college at Cal Berkeley.
He won his first Super Bowl in 2013 with the Seattle Seahawks.
If the Seahawks can find their way back to the Super Bowl, it would be the team's third appearance in as many years.
5. Julian Edelman - Redwood City - One Super Bowl Ring
Yet another New England Patriots player has made the list. The star wide receiver is from Redwood City and even played some college ball at a local community college, the College of San Mateo.
Edelman and Brady are known to be very good friends. The two player's success together was a big factor in the Patriots winning the Super Bowl last season.
The wide out was injured for the last six games of the 2015 season, but he is expected to play against the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday.
He is the x-factor in a New England offense which is missing a lot of weapons to injuries.
