Placer County Transportation Officials Want To Fix Interstate 80, Highway 65 Congestion

PLACER COUNTY (CBS13) — Transportation officials want to fix a problem spot along Interstate 80, where it meets with Highway 65.

The Placer County Transportation Planning Agency wants to change some of the congestion issues in the area by widening the highway and adding carpool lanes in a three-phase plan.

In Phase 1, crews would add a lane to each of the four ramps connecting Interstate 80 to Highway 65. The project would also add a carpool lane from eastbound I-80 to northbound Highway 65, and another from Southbound Highway 65 to westbound I-80.

Phase 2 would change the I-80 onramps from Eureka Road, Roseville Parkway and Taylor Road exits.

Phase 3 would widen Highway 65 for seven miles between Galleria Boulevard up to Lincoln Boulevard.

The project is still in the planning phase. The agency says funding is a problem and it's looking to the cities of Rocklin and Roseville for help.

Planners are conducting an environmental impact study before the project moves forward.
