People on dirt bikes ride through Modesto mall

MODESTO — Modesto police on Thursday said one of the two suspects who rode dirt bikes through the Vintage Faire Mall earlier this week has been arrested while the other remains at large.

Modesto police say they initially got reports Tuesday about shots fired in the mall. Officers quickly got to the scene and found out that it wasn't gunshots that people heard, but dirt bikes being ridden through the mall.

At least two suspects were seen riding dirt bikes, making loud noises and causing a disturbance.  On Thursday, Modesto police released surveillance photos of the suspects as they entered the mall.

Both suspects were identified as Modesto resident David Hickman, 23, and Manteca resident Derion Chavis, 20. Hickman was arrested Thursday on a charge of felony evading from a prior incident while Chavis remains at large.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Chavis is urged to call the police department.
