Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Car In Fairfield By DUI Suspect

FAIRFIELD (CBS13) – A part of Travis Boulevard was closed throughout the morning as officers investigated a fatal crash.

The incident happened a little before 6:30 a.m. along E. Travis Boulevard near San Bruno Street. According to the Fairfield Police Department, a car was driving the wrong way down the road and partially on the sidewalk.

A pedestrian crossing the street was hit by the car. The car then went on to hit a PG&E power pole.

Police say the pedestrian, only identified as a 44-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene, police say

Investigators believe the driver of the car, 31-year-old Fairfield resident Nathan Vargas, was under the influence. Vargas has since been arrested and booked at Solano County Jail.

Travis Boulevard between Dover Avenue and Eisenhower Street was closed until early afternoon.
