Fatal crash closes Fruitridge Road in south Sacramento

SACRAMENTO – An investigation is underway along a major south Sacramento road after a vehicle collision that left one person dead Tuesday morning.

Sacramento police say officers responded to the scene along Fruitridge Road, near Ethel Way, just after 4:30 a.m. and found that two pedestrians had been struck by a vehicle.

One of those pedestrians, a man, was pronounced dead at the scene by medics, police say.

The other pedestrian, a woman, suffered significant injuries.

Officers say the driver of the vehicle involved stayed at the scene.

Detectives will be canvassing the area and continuing to investigate the incident, police noted. The name of the man killed has not been released at this point in the investigation.

Due to the investigation, Fruitridge Road was closed between Ethel and Laurine ways for most of the morning. The roadway has since reopened.
