Two Children, One Adult Shot Near Park In Del Paso Heights
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- Police say a child's birthday party turned violent in Del Paso Heights at Margarette Marks Park just before 4 p.m. Sunday.
At least 3 of those bullets hit a 20-year-old woman and two children – a 6-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy.
A neighbor who declined to be identified said he was watching TV in his garage when he heard a familiar sound.
"I heard six or seven shots so I closed my garage door because it was dangerous. Then I heard a car speeding by," he said.
Police believe there were at least two cars speeding away. One of those cars contained a frantic mother speeding her child who'd been shot to the hospital. The occupants of the other car are unknown.
But witnesses say it was part of a drive-by shooting intended for a separate group of people in the park.
Then a street fight broke out.
"I saw a guy on the ground they were fighting," said witness Raymundo Madrigal.
Crime tape closed off several streets. Police used air support and K-9's to help try and locate whoever was responsible.
"It was chaotic when officers arrived. Several men were fighting officers were able to calm everyone down," said Lt. Shawn Rodgers with the Sacramento Police Department.
Several teen witnesses were detained for questioning.
