Man Allegedly Hauling Stolen Trailer Accused Of Shooting At Yuba City Police
YUBA CITY (CBS13) -- The Yuba City Police Department reports that its officers fired shots in response to those from a driver towing an allegedly stolen trailer.
County sheriffs notified police that they were following a vehicle towing the trailer into Yuba City around 1:52 A.M.
Yuba City Officers located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver chose not to stop and a vehicle pursuit was initiated near Garden Hwy. and Percy Ave., say police. During the pursuit, the driver allegedly intentionally rammed a Yuba City patrol car that was attempting to block traffic.
The pursuit continued traveling south and eventually ended up at the intersection of Garden Hwy. and Messick Rd. At this point, the driver drove through an irrigation ditch into a cultivated field. This ultimately disabled his vehicle. The driver then fled on foot with Yuba City officers giving chase, they say. During the foot pursuit the suspect fired shots at officers who returned fire.
The suspect taken into custody was identified as Dale Crittendon, 59. Crittendon was transported to Rideout Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Once released from Rideout Hospital, he will be booked into the Sutter County Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, assault with a firearm upon a peace officer, attempted murder, possession of stolen property and charges related to the vehicle pursuit.
Crittendon was found to have a warrant for a parole violation as well as a warrant for his arrest from Sacramento County.
Additional charges may be filed as the investigation progresses.
A firearm was found in Crittendon's possession at the time of his arrest. In addition to the stolen travel trailer, the vehicle Crittendon was driving to tow it was determined to be stolen as well.
Per protocol, investigators from the Officer Involved Shooting team for Yuba and Sutter Counties responded to the scene to handle the investigation of the officers' who fired their weapons.
