The Raiders quarterback was named to replace Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who is said to be injured—though he finished Sunday's playoff loss against the Arizona Cardinals.
To announce the news, the Raiders posted an image on Twitter congratulating Carr. It features a photo of Carr with his mouth agape and eyes partially closed.
