Northern California Officer Fired For Threatening Tweets Back On Force
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- A Northern California officer fired for posting inflammatory comments on social media that were critical of the Black Lives Matter movement is back on the police force.
The San Jose Mercury News reports Officer Phillip White returned to work earlier this month following an independent arbitrator's decision to reinstate him.
White was fired in October after drawing national attention for tweets that were widely viewed as threats. In one, he wrote: "Threaten me or my family and I will use my God given and law appointed right and duty to kill you. #CopsLivesMatter."
Police made his reinstatement public on Thursday.
White has been assigned to desk duty and will help the with the department's body-worn camera rollout.
News of his reinstatement has angered and disappointed local civil rights activists.
