Early morning North Highlands garage fire displaces family of 8

4 adults, 4 children displaced after North Highlands garage fire

NORTH HIGHLANDS – A family of eight is out of their home after an early morning fire in North Highlands on Thursday.

Metro Fire of Sacramento crews responded to the scene on Painter Way around 1:30 a.m., finding a garage on fire at a home.

Firefighters went to work quickly and stopped the flames before the could breach into the home.

However, firefighters say there was some smoke damage to the inside of the home.

Everyone inside, four adults and four children, got out safely thanks to working smoke alarms, Metro Fire says.

Exactly what started the fire is under investigation, but Metro Fire says the incident is an important reminder for people to have working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors as temperatures drop outside and the use of warming appliances increases this season.
