9 Vehicle Crash Causing Delays On I-80 In West Sacramento

WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A multiple vehicle crash has a portion of westbound Interstate 80 late Tuesday morning.

The scene is near the Highway 50 connector on I-80 in West Sacramento.

California Highway Patrol says a total of nine vehicles are involved in the crash - eight cars and one big rig. A total of eight people were injured in the crash; four suffered minor injuries, three others walked away with bumps and bruises, and one person has been taken to the hospital with major injuries.

Witnesses told CHP that the big rig came out of nowhere and plowed into all of the vehicles. CHP says the big rig driver was conscious at the time, so it is unclear what caused the crash.

All westbound traffic on I-80 is being diverted to Highway 50.

CHP does not expect the roadway to reopen until about 3 p.m.
