MODESTO (CBS13) — A 94-year-old man beaten in his home has died in the hospital less than a month after the attack.

Richard Iverson, 94, was placed in an induced coma after his wife says intruders broke all the bones in his face and left him for dead in a July 24 home invasion on Gary Lane.

Mairine Iverson says her husband, a World War II veteran, went outside to turn off the lights before bed when she heard him yell for help.

She says the pair that beat Richard also took off with one of their bedroom drawers. It was full of papers and maybe some cash – that's it.

Now, less than a month later, Iverson has died, and Modesto Police are still searching for suspects in the case. The first is described as wearing a mask or hood covering the face, possibly a woman. There is no description of the second suspect. Both were wearing dark clothing.
