Police: Suspect In Modesto Slayings Accused Of Killing Mother
MODESTO (CBS13) - A Modesto Police Department spokesman on Monday said the mother of accused killer Martin Martinez was one of the five people found dead over the weekend.
The body of Anna Brown Romero, 57, was found inside the home on Nob Hill Court, along with the body Dr. Amanda Crews and the 6-month-old daughter she and Martinez had together. The other two victims were Crews' 6-year-old daughter and a 5-year-old relative who was dropped off for a family event. Police made the grisly discovery Saturday afternoon after a neighbor called 911 and requested a welfare check.
Police later identified 30-year-old Martinez as a suspect. He was arrested Sunday as he was coming out of a San Jose movie theater.
Crime scene workers could be seen going in and out of the home on Nob Hill Court on Monday, where a memorial for the victims has sprung up on the front lawn.
Family and friends identified the other adult victim as Dr. Amanda Crews, who worked as a physician in Turlock and Modesto. Crews had three daughters.
"We have also determined that there is a past relationship between Martin and one of the victims inside, and one of the children is his," said Heather Graves with the Modesto Police Department.
Police tell CBS13 Martinez is the father of crews' six-month old daughter.
A spokesperson at the jail says they will hold Martinez until police take him back to Modesto where he will be arraigned.
On Thursday authorities announced that a 2-year-old boy identified as Christopher, died of blunt force trauma in October 2014 while in the care of Martinez.
