MODESTO — The Modesto Nuts are back-to-back champions after defeating the Lake Elsinore Storm 2-1 in the California League Championship Series.

The Nuts, the Seattle Mariners Single A affiliate, trailed 1-0 until the 5th inning. Milkar Perez drew a bases-loaded walk. Josh Caron then grounded the go-ahead run.

Modesto's pitching combined for 13 strikeouts.

The future of the Nuts in Modesto had been up in the air until late August as their lease at John Thurman Field was set to expire on September 30.

However, the city council unanimously voted to extend the team's lease through the 2025 season.

With Wednesday's victory, the Modesto Nuts have now won 11 championships in the city, including three since the Mariners fully acquired them.
