Missing Boy Killed By Falling 50-Foot-Tall Tree In South Lake Tahoe During Storm

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (AP) — Police believe a teenage boy who was reported missing in Northern California was fatally struck by a 50-foot-tall tree that fell during last week's storm.

The South Lake Tahoe police department said someone discovered the boy's body in a wooded area Saturday afternoon.

His family had reported him missing Thursday night, when a strong storm brought gusty wind, rain and snow to the region. He was found about a half mile away from where he was last seen.

The boy's parents told Reno television station KRNV-TV that Dejon Smith was 14 years old and a freshman at South Tahoe High School.
