McDonald's Features Northern California City In New Ad, Residents Cry Foul

PETALUMA (CBS13) – McDonald's has been on a mission to change consumers' perceptions of their food.

Many of the fast food company's recent ads have focused on demystifying where their food comes from, even employing a former "Mythbuster" to try and lend them a little more credence.

Northern California viewers immediately recognized another familiar face in the latest ad for the Egg White Delight McMuffin – downtown Petaluma.

Apparently, according to reports, some Petaluma residents are none-too-happy their city was featured in the ad.

Numerous commenters to the Petaluma Downtown Association noted their displeasure with the town being linked to big corporation.

"Isn't McDonalds the type of business from which our downtown strives to distance itself? You find McDonalds in strip malls across Anyplace, USA," Björn Griepenburg wrote.

For what it's worth, the association immediately responded to the negativity, writing in part:

"We don't get to discriminate as to who gets to film and who does not, unless it's really controversial. We have had many major brands film here..just last year we had Budweiser and a major tire company make commercials. City staff and my job is to ensure that film producers follow the guidelines, take out permits and that they inform whoever may be impacted. It is all about the egg indeed and whether you like McDonalds or not - we have three in town and somebody likes them!"
