Matthew Muller Pleads Guilty To Denise Huskins Kidnapping That Cops Called A Hoax

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The suspect in a bizarre kidnapping pleaded guilty on Thursday.

Matthew Muller will be sentenced to no more than 40 years in prison in the kidnapping case, avoiding life in prison under the plea deal.

Muller is suspected in a bizarre kidnapping that police once called a hoax. The one-time attorney and Harvard graduate Matthew Muller was arrested in July 2015 the after the kidnapping of Denise Huskins.

Huskins went missing in March 2015, prompting a days-long search for her. She was found at her parents' house a few days later and hundreds of miles away, leading the Vallejo Police Department to call the case a hoax.

Muller 's attorney, Tom Johnson, says his client is "accepting responsibility" and "wanted to end the case."

A spokesperson for Muller's family says Matthew was acting "completely out of character."
