Man's Social Media Plea Reunites Him With Boat Stolen From Lodi Lake
LODI (CBS13) — A recent break-in at the boathouse on Lodi Lake took on new life as hundreds of people shared the post online in search of the missing boats.
It started with a simple post on Facebook but word spread and an alert boater soon came face to face with the culprits trying to cover up the crime.
"I didn't think we'd ever get them back," said Dan Arbuckle.
He's talking about a red peddle boat and green canoe taken from his boathouse on Lodi Lake last Friday. He turned to social media to vent his frustration posting pictures with his plea. He was overwhelmed by the quick response.
"Pretty much instantly people started sharing it," he said.
An even bigger surprise than the quick response was a call from a boater alerted to the post who found the boat. A man and his son had come across two men trying to camouflage the crime.
Dan has since posted a video thank you and included a photo of the man who saved the day. The boat rescuer didn't want his name used but was happy to pose next to the boat for a social media post. He also got a $150 reward.
The canoe is still missing.
