Man Suspected Of DUI In Fatal Crash Along North Shore Of Lake Tahoe
CARNELIAN BAY, Calif. (AP) - A 25-year-old Tahoe City man has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and vehicular manslaughter in a crash on Lake Tahoe's north shore that killed a passenger in his SUV over the weekend.
The California Highway Patrol says Kelley Smith was being held in the Placer County jail Monday on $250,000 bail after he allegedly crashed into a power pole at a high rate of speed early Saturday on Highway 28 in Carnelian Bay.
The victim was identified as 24-year-old Daniel Koenig of Tahoe City. The patrol says he was not wearing a seatbelt. He was ejected from the Subaru Outback when it collided with several trees and hit the pole about 2:20 a.m.
Smith was wearing a seatbelt and suffered only minor injuries. Another passenger wearing a seatbelt escaped uninjured.
