Man shot in chest in Sacramento area dies, homicide investigation underway

Man killed, woman hospitalized after shooting at Sacramento-area apartments

SACRAMENTO – Deputies are investigating a shooting that left a man dead on Friday afternoon in the Arden-Arcade area of Sacramento County.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said a man was shot in the chest at the Gas Light Towers apartments on the 3800 block of Annadale Lane sometime around 2 p.m. Shortly before 4:45 p.m., deputies said the man died.

A woman who was shot in the head was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. The relationship between the two victims is unknown.

"This area is busy, heavily populated, but nothing like this," said Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a spokesperson for the sheriff's office. "It's not some violent area that we come to regularly for anything like this. This is, I'm sure, a shock to the system for them as it is for us.

Deputies confirmed the shooting happened near the pool area. Deputies are at the scene investigating the shooting.

"We walk our dogs in this neighborhood. There's kids that go to school [around here]. This is very surprising," said Dion Lomack, who lives in the area. "I've never heard no gunshots in this neighborhood ever. This is the first time."

No information about what led up to the shooting or about a suspect was available.
