Man Rescued After Driving Car Into Flooded Area Near Elverta

ELVERTA (CBS13) – A man was rescued from his vehicle after driving into this water near Elverta on Sunday afternoon.

Metro Fire responded around 2 p.m. They brought an inflatable rescue boat along with several first responders.

The driver was actually able to climb out of his window and stand on top of his car as he waited for the first responders.

He's doing okay and has no injuries, but his car is still out there.

This entire area was dry yesterday. The water only accumulated after the rain in the afternoon and evening.

"These signs aren't out here because people are trying to make your life more difficult. They're trying to help you out and when you disregard those warnings, you put yourself in peril," said Metro Fire Battalion Chief Forrest Rowell.

Rowell says it wasn't that deep, maybe 2 to 3 feet – but too high for a car to actually operate.

The man was offered medical treatment but he declined.

Neighbors say this area floods like this every year and they don't understand why people still attempt to go through it.
