Man Assaults, Seriously Injures West Sacramento Officer Following Traffic Stop

WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A West Sacramento police officer was seriously injured after he was assaulted during a traffic stop.

The incident happened on Reed Avenue near Harbor Boulevard around 3 a.m. Wednesday.

Police say the officer a car over, only for the driver to take off running. The officer chased after him, but was assaulted by the suspect when he caught up.

Despite being seriously injured by the suspect, the officer was able to hold onto him until backup came. The officer, whose identity has not been released, was left with serious injuries and had to be transported to the hospital. He is said to be in stable condition.

No weapons were used in the assault, police note.

The suspect, only identified at this time as a 33-year-old man was arrested on multiple felony charges.
