Man Accused Of Placing Chemical Weapon Inside Walmart

OXNARD, Calif. (AP) -- Police have arrested a man accused of placing a chemical weapon inside a Ventura County Walmart store last month.

The Ventura County Star reports that a 31-year-old Oxnard man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of the unlawful possession and manufacture of a chemical weapon of mass destruction in connection to the June 18 incident.

Oxnard police were called on June 18 after a bowl containing a mixture of chemicals that was connected to an electrical cord plugged into an outlet was found inside the Walmart store.

The suspect, who was already in county jail in connection to an unrelated offense, told police on Tuesday that he made the weapon with instructions from the internet and that he was aware it could produce a harmful gas.
