Man killed after a shooting, attempted robbery at a Stockton truck stop

STOCKTON – An investigation is underway in Stockton after a man was shot and killed at a truck stop during an attempted robbery late Thursday night.

Stockton police say officers responded to the scene along the 1000 block of W. Charter Way, just off of Interstate 5, before midnight to investigate reports of a person shot.

First responders soon found the victim was a 45-year-old man.

Medics rushed the man to the hospital, but police say he later died from his injuries. Authorities have not yet released the name of the man.

Investigators believe that two men, the 45-year-old and a 28-year-old man, were in the parking lot of the truck stop when the suspects confronted and tried to rob them. It's unclear how many suspects there were. 

Police say the 45-year-old man was shot when he refused to give up his belongings. The other man was not hurt. 

No description of the suspects has been released.
