Lodi Movie Theater Reopens After Bed Bugs Cleared

LODI (CBS13) — The Lodi Stadium 12 Cinemas reopened Thursday to mixed reviews. The cinemas had ten screens for matinee showings and before noon customers showed up to buy tickets.

Regular patron Cody Cloud is confident he will sit and enjoy "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" without becoming a snack for a bed bug.

"I feel like it's not going to happen to me, I don't know why," said Cloud. "I feel like they did a good job cleaning. They wouldn't open it if people started getting bit."

One couple, however, turned around at the ticket booth when they heard the theater recently had bed bugs. New patron Tara Crane didn't know about the pest problem when she arrived, but bought tickets anyway.

"It's alright, I'll do it," said Crane, who was seeing "Magic in the Moonlight." "So hopefully, it'll be magic in the cleansing of the bed bugs."

Lodi Police code enforcement said it didn't cite Lodi Stadium 12 Cinemas, because the owners took care of the bed bug problem on their own. Code enforcement said the theater used three methods to exterminate: high heat in the theaters, steamed the seats, and had a chemical applied to furniture.

Thursday might not be the best day to judge how well the theater does since it's the night of the Lodi Farmers Market. A lack of parking and not bed bugs could keep customers away.

Code enforcement said Clark Pest Control was monitoring the theaters Thursday night. Next week, code enforcement will inspect the theater and follow up with monthly inspections.
