Family Furious Funeral Home Re-Sold Mother's Plot
LODI (CBS13) — Just days away from their mother's funeral, her family doesn't know where she'll be laid to rest after the funeral home re-sold her plot.
The family in mourning is now feuding over her final resting place.
Sisters Lucila Ledesma and Margarita Lawson have the Cherokee Memorial Park and Funeral Home double plot paperwork their mom and late sister bought 16 years ago so they could be buried together.
But that plot was sold to another family that bought four plots side-by-side, and the plot meant for their mother is now taken.
The cemetery's CEO Walt Sheffer is remorseful.
I think we've done something wrong," he said. "We didn't record something in our documents. We missed it. So we were wrong in that area."
Scheffer is offering the family any other spot, but they say anything different from what their mother imagined is unacceptable.
