Pickup truck crashes into Lake Arthur near Auburn; DUI suspected

PLACER COUNTY – Authorities say a pickup driver is suspected of DUI after they drove right into a small lake near Auburn late Thursday morning.

California Highway Patrol said, around 10:30 a.m., officers responded to a reported crash into Lake Arthur.

As officers learned, a pickup truck driver had apparently made an unsafe turn – driving right into the lake.

By the time first responders arrived, the vehicle was up to its wheel wells in the water.

Officers said the driver wasn't hurt in the crash, but they did find he was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The driver is now facing DUI charges and will be booked into jail.

Lake Arthur is a small reservoir about six miles north of Auburn.
