Kings Win, But Head Coach Uncertainty Looms Over Team
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – It was a victory for the Kings in front of their fans Sunday night. But behind the scenes, owner Vivek Ranadivé is reportedly working to fix the franchise free-fall by hiring another head coach.
It would be the Kings' third coach of the season – and they'd have to fire current head coach Tyrone Corbin, who's read the published reports.
Yahoo Sports and USA Today reported that the Kings are in deep negotiations with high-profile George Karl – and his hiring could be imminent.
"Does it put Tyrone Corbin in an impossible situation?" we asked Kings Broadcaster Jerry Reynolds. "Well, I don't know if it's impossible, but it's pretty close," he said.
The Kings' dive coincided with the hiring of Corbin and the unusually-timed firing of Michael Malone – Ranadivé's first hire, who was expected to lead the team to their new downtown arena.
Under Corbin, the Kings have lost 11 of their last 13.
Ron Klint is a season ticket holder.
"It's very awkward. I don't have anything against Tyrone Corbin, but it feels like he's been put between a rock and a hard place," Klint said.
The Kings arena saga is finally solved, but now their coaching carousel may soon see another change.
If Karl is hired, he would be the Kings' eighth head coach in nine years.
