Mother Arrested After Baby Found With Fractured Skull

VACAVILLE (CBS13) – A 29-year-old woman is facing child abuse charges after her baby was found with a fractured skull.

Vacaville police say paramedics were called to Super 8 Motel along Allison Court on April 21 after a five-month-old baby had a seizure. Medics took the baby to Vaca Valley Hospital.

Doctors soon discovered that the baby had a skull fracture. The baby was then transferred to the UC Davis Medical Center and placed in the ICU.

Staff at Vaca Valley Hospital contacted authorities about the incident, prompting child abuse investigation by the Vacaville Police Department.

More injuries police say are consistent with ongoing abuse were discovered on the baby during the investigation.

On Tuesday, detectives met up with the baby's mother – 29-year-old transient Patricia Steve – in Sacramento and arrested her. She is facing numerous charges related to child abuse, police say.

Steve is being held at Solano County Jail and is ineligible for bail.

The baby remains in the ICU and its condition is unclear, police say.
