Home-Delivery Pot Company's Snack Pairings A Hit With Women
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Medical marijuana can now be delivered right to your door in a box, but you need a prescription. A local company is doing just that, but along with providing the bud, it's satisfying your taste buds as well.
The Nugbox by Nug Run doesn't just come with medical cannabis, it also includes a snack the creators says pairs well with the strain of marijuana.
"You can pair different marijuana strains with specific foods to create a more gratifying high," said Nug Run founder Nick Ocampo. "We are walking you through just, like, a beer, wine, coffee pairing in a more refined setting.
But it's more than just a high. Ocampo says it's also an art. He first got the idea last year at his friend's house.
"He started talking about terpenes and I told him, 'Well did you know hops are actually the cousin of cannabis, and those terpenes that are in your favorite citrus IPA are also inside this lemon kush that I have?'" he said.
The company has a lemon box, which pairs a lemon ogre cannabis strain with chamomile lemon tea.
Ocampo says he's even working with a macaron chef to pair strawberry-lemon macarons with his strawberry cannabis. It's a revolutionary idea, and it's apparently a hit with women.
"Out of every 10 orders, 10 are women," he said.
Angela Shaw just started receiving these Nugboxes. She says the medical cannabis pairings give her Zen when she gets anxiety.
"It can relax you. It's something you can enjoy, just like having a glass of wine or if you like to go out for a beer," said Shaw.
And customers say it's discreet, which is one reason why Ocampo thinks he's already shipped tens of thousands of Nugboxes around California over the last week. But not everyone can order. You need to log into the website and verify you're a medical cannabis patient.
"The view of cannabis is going to change into an artisanal high-end organic product just like anything off of whole foods shelves," said Ocampo.
This is the first cannabis-pairing idea to ever be applied in the industry. Nug Run serves the Sacramento and San Francisco area. Ocampo is hoping to expand to L.A. in the near future
